Nearly one-third of the 1,091 WWTPs with operational biogas systems accept food waste, primarily in the form of fats, oils, and grease (F.O.G.). This inclusion expands the capacity of WWTPs to process organic waste, further reducing the burden on landfills and contributing to renewable energy generation.
